'26 Trans Evergreen Mountain Bike Ride
We'll be back on the bikes for some more fun on Saturday, September 26 for the 4th Annual Trans Evergreen.
Same route we all love and loathe! 40 miles, 6K climbing/descending, several easy spots to bail out, and a proper fiesta at the end.
Trans Evergreen is not a race. It’s a fun adventure ride with good folks in our backyard.
We start at Staunton State Park, and -if going full pull- wrap it up with a descent from Bergen Peak.
Riders can join for as little or as much of the ride as they’re feeling, with multiple, easy bail out spots that will bring you right back into town.
We ride up & down three mountains with some trail/asphalt transfers in between: 1) Staunton SP (Shadow/Black Mtn.?) 2) Evergreen Mtn. 3) Bergen Peak.
Those that aren’t going full pull are just as radical as those that do. It’s all in the name of fun and camaraderie - and ultimately an excuse to get in shape, then drink beer and eat copious amounts of food upon completion.
The only thing I need to know from you - by September 5 - is if you’ll be joining for the start of the ride at Staunton. I need a headcount to organize transportation. The train will leave my house (across from Elk Meadow) at 7am. Depending on #’s, I’ll need to muster up a few hitch racks and willing friends to help get us there.
Regarding pace, we like to take breaks when/where appropriate, eat snacks, shoot the shit, then keep rolling. Riders are welcome to go faster or slower than the main group, but the emphasis will be on the group. If someone’s really charging hard or moving slow, we’ll have a chat and he’s welcome to go it alone, bail, etc. - it’s all good.
In short, you should be in some form of riding shape, able to grind up some long climbs, and confidently descend - but we aren’t trying to break records.
The deets:
Start: Staunton State Park
Finish: Bottom of Too Long/Bergen Peak=Jim’s house
Full Pull = about 36 miles/5,600 ft gain
1st opportunity to bail out: bottom of Cub Creek Trail (Black Mountain Dr./S. Brook Forest Rd.)
2nd: bottom of Evergreen Mountain (Buffalo Park Rd.)
3rd: Keys on the Green
4th: Elk Meadow (pre up/down Bergen)
Support: This is a self-supported adventure ride. We share/wrench on each others bike as necessary/etc., but all should treat it like they’re going it alone. We do make a welcome, lengthy stop at the Ponderosa Market/Conoco station before heading up to Bergen. They have the best pizza in town and it’s a perfect spot to crush shit calories before earning it up Bergen.
